Am I required to appear for a scheduled court date?

If your citation specifically states “must appear”, or is checked “yes”, then you must appear when scheduled.  If appearing in court as a juvenile, a parent or guardian must be present.  You are considered an adult when issued a traffic citation, regardless of your age.

How do I know when my court date is?

The court date you have been assigned is located on your citation.

If my citation does NOT indicate “must appear”, what happens if I do not appear in Court?

You do not have to appear if you pay the amount indicated on the top of the citation on or before the court date indicated on your citation.  In this case, you will be found guilty and the money posted will be accepted as payment of the forfeiture.

Can I reschedule a court date?

Yes, the Court will honor one continuance request if the request is made in writing at least ten (10) days before your assigned court date.  Requests can be mailed or faxed.  Requests received less than ten (10) days before the court date and requests for adjournment may be granted if good cause is shown.  The Court Clerk and/or Judge will consider any valid reasons and schedule your case for the next available court date.

What happens if I miss my court date?

You must contact the court clerk immediately for instructions.
