There has been an increase in deaths from home fires in Wisconsin this year.

With the safety of residents in mind, the Somers Fire Department reminds everyone to instal smoke alarms in each sleeping area and on every level of one’s home. Alarms should be tested monthly.

Additionally, sleeping with bedroom doors closed can prevent the spread of smoke and fire.

When cooking, stay in the kitchen. According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking is the number one cause of home fires.

Develop and practice an escape plan for your family.

If Somers residents need a smoke alarm, the Somers Fire Department can provide one and help instal it. If interested, contact Lt. Adam Pisula at 262-620-3285 or via email.
