Somers may be a small town but our July 4th parade and ice cream social is a big event, drawing more than 4,000 people for 2013.  Our Committee prides themselves on starting the two hour parade promptly at 2:00 p.m.  Families, from young children to grandpa and grandma, arrive early with lawn chairs and search for that perfect viewing spot.  Parking is abundant and free.  Many take a walk to the Town Hall where the hot dogs, brats, snacks, soft drinks are being served.  The Somers parade is truly a local parade, featuring 93 entries from both Somers and our surrounding communities.  Afterward, hundreds attend the free ice cream social at the Town Hall.  Cake, ice cream and juice is donated and served by volunteers.  After ice cream, the Somers Memorial Park, located directly behind Town Hall, was enjoyed by many children as they ran and played during the afternoon.  It’s a great event and we hope to see you next year!
