The theme of our  2015 parade is “Remembering Our Past”.

This year’s Somers July 4th Parade and Independence Day Celebration is very special.  We are celebrating our 50th parade and hope that this year’s theme inspires everyone to honor and remember the rich history of our community.  Although our parade has grown since 1965, we take pride that our parade continues to enjoy strong participation from our local residents and neighbors.

The parade route begins at Shoreland Lutheran High School on Highway E and proceeds east, ending at Somers Elementary School on Highway E.   Everyone is invited to bring your family (in fact, make it a tradition) and don’t forget to attend the ice cream social located in Town Hall after the parade  Other events will be announced at a later date.

The first Somers Parade debuted in 1965.  Prompted by a community divide in opinion of a Somers sewer project, Mrs. Leroy (Myrtle) Johnson and others formed the Somers Civic Association in 1964 as a way to bring the community back together.  She helped establish the first Somers July 4th Parade in 1965, encouraging local clubs, organizations, baby buggies, tractors from local farmers, and others to come together as a community.  Over the years, the parade has grown to attract thousands of people who make it an annual tradition to attend the Somers community parade and ice cream social.

Thank you to all our volunteers and financial supporters.  Your commitment to the Somers July 4th Parade and Celebration Event would not be possible with you!
