Starting April 8, 2021, Kenosha County Highway S will be closed between Highway N (38th Street) and East Frontage Road.

This closure is expected to continue through the fall, as crews work to construct the new eastbound lanes of Highway S west of Highway N.

Access to businesses and residences will be maintained during the closure.

Drivers will be detoured around the area via East Frontage Road, Highway 158 (52nd Street) and Highway 31 (Green Bay Road).

Work on the entire project is scheduled to continue through late 2021.

Once completed, Highway S will be a four-lane, divided highway from Highway 31 (Green Bay Road) to East Frontage Road. The roadway will be widened, turn lanes will be added, traffic signals replaced, drainage will be improved, and an off-road, multi-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians will be added.

The project is broken into two phases, which are being built out concurrently:

  • Phase 1 includes the 2-mile stretch from Highway 31 (Green Bay Road) to just west of Highway H (88th Avenue).
  • Phase 2 includes the 1.6-mile stretch between Highway H and the Amazon west driveway.
