When the village of Somers adopted its 2019 budget, it needed to fund additional first responder services. The board approved the increase to the budget to be paid through increase revenue from new construction. That would have resulted in additional services with no increase in taxes to residents.

Unfortunately, due to a miscalculation, the wrong revenue amount was considered. The issue stemmed from using the Tax Increment District in value instead of the TID out. This resulted in an increase in the Village of Somers’ taxes to residents to make up for the difference in the lesser revenue.

After an internal village wide audit identifying the source of the issue, steps are being taken to make sure such mistake does not happen again.
