In September, 2014, a new state of the art playground structure designed for ages 5-12, was installed in Somers Memorial Park located just south of Town Hall.  This colorful structure includes 14 specific playground activities.  The 14 elevated events and 6 ground events are all designed to promote balance, increase muscle development, eye-hand coordination, and strength confidence.

The new playground was the result of a project spear-headed by the Town of Somers Parks Committee.  100% of the playground was funded through impact fees which are collected from developers.  No taxpayer funds were used on this project.  Thank you Parks Committee for all your hard work!

The entire play structure was made in the State of Wisconsin, including the shade fabric, slides and plastic.  The manufacturer, BCI Burk Company, is a family owned business in Fond du Lac, and is recognized as the oldest playground company in the U.S.  In addition to the new Somers playground structure, BCI also manufactures a structure for ages 2-5.

The play structure exceeds the minimum compliance level required by the ADAAG (American Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines).  All components of this new playground include a certification number that coordinates with the IPEMA (International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association) who provides 3rd party product certificates for U.S. and Canadian public play equipment.
