The National Flood Insurance Program aims to reduce the impact of flooding on private and public structures. It does so by providing affordable insurance to property owners, and by encouraging communities to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations.  The Village of Somers is moving forward in the process of receiving approval to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program.  Once approved, residents may be eligible to purchase flood insurance from the NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program).

On April 27, 2017, the Village of Somers submitted its application package to FEMA where it is currently in process.  Somers expects to receive approval from FEMA in fall or early winter 2017.  Flood insurance from the NFIP is only available with communities who have received approval to participate in this program.  Those who own property in a floodplain are encouraged to contact their insurance
