Somers Fire & Rescue Department and Somers Explorers held public safety events during Fire Prevention Week in October 2016 at Somers Elementary School, Busy Bee Day Care, and Festival Foods.  Sparky the fire dog was an honored guest at all the events!  Ambulances, fire trucks, the Kenosha County fire safety “smoke” house, and Somers aerial platform truck were manned with Somers staff who provide tours of the vehicles.  Somers Explorers and members of the Department also demonstrated and displayed some of the equipment found on the trucks and ambulances that are used to help save lives in an emergency.

The 2016 theme for Fire Prevention Week was “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years”.  The public events are held to encourage the public to take proactive measures to make sure their smoke alarms are in working order.

The photos below show a group of Somers Elementary School pre-kindergarten kids checking out the trucks, ambulance, smoke house, and their favorite, hugging Sparky!  If you ask the kids to name their favorite part of the day, it will be having Sparky and the fire and rescue staff having lunch with them in the cafeteria!
