Immediate Help Available for Somers Residents with Flood Damage

The Village Board of Somers held an emergency meeting at 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 13, 2017 to discuss and address emergency issues of streets and immediate needs of residents who experienced damage as a result of the recent flooding.  George Stoner, Village President, along with Bill Morris, Administrator, and Jerry Smith Public Works Supervisor toured the Village to assess the damage.  The following help and information is available to help residents who have experienced flood damage.

 

Free Cleaning Supplies

Free cleaning supplies for Somers residents with flood damage will be available for pick up in the Leon T. Dreger Auditorium inside the Village/Town Hall thanks to a $500.00 donation from our neighborhood Sam’s Club, and an additional $500.00 matching funds from the Village.

Red Cross Flood Kits

Kits are available to all Somers residents who experienced flood damage.  Please ask for your free kit at the Village/Town Hall front reception counter.

 

Flood Damage Debris Pick-Up

Residents who experienced flood damage are eligible for free curb-side pick up of items damaged due to flood water.  Residents of Somers must register for pick up by calling the Village/Town Hall at 262-859-2822, or by email to Jerry Smith, Public Works Supervisor at gsmith@somers.org

To register for pick-up on Saturday, July 15, 2017, residents must call or email by 4:30 PM, Friday, July 14, 2017. 
To register for pick-up on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, residents must call or email by 4:30 PM on Monday or Tuesday.

 

Village and Town Street Damage

The Village submitted its application on Thursday, July 14, 2017 requesting funds for street repair from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  The estimated cost to repair Somers damage streets is $250,000.00. 

  • The 13th Avenue Pike Creek Bridge has 160 feet of pavement and embankment erosion that encroached into the southbound lane.  13th Avenue will be closed until engineers have inspected the bridge and deemed it safe for traffic.  Upon re-opening, the southbound lane will be closed until repairs are scheduled.
  • The 4200 block and 3100 block of 4th Street experienced culvert and road shoulder washout.  Repairs are scheduled.
  • The 100 block of 113th Avenue experienced shoulder washout. Repairs are scheduled.

Report Flood Damage

All Kenosha County residents who have experienced flood damage are strongly encouraged to report it immediately to the Kenosha County Emergency Management Hotline at 262-605-7924.  Your information will be used to apply to the State of Wisconsin for disaster funding.
